If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This American slang expression means if something is not broken, there is no need to fix it. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) should take this advice to heart. To take it to heart means to think seriously about advice or criticism. The Peak is one of Hong Kong's top natural attractions. It has eye-popping day and night views of Victoria Harbour, another of Hong Kong's natural beauties. If something is eye-popping, it means it is very impressive or noticeable in a way that gets your attention.

I have been to The Peak numerous times. I loved going to the Lugard Road and Harlech Road walking trails when I lived in Hong Kong. The trails give walkers a feel of nature. But the HKTB, in its folly, proposed installing decorative lighting on parts of the trails. The expression "in its folly" means behaving in a foolish way. Maybe the HKTB needs to understand what a natural environment is. The HKTB means well and wants to improve the walking trails. I know that. But nature is beautiful on its own.

It doesn't need to be decorated by humans. The HKTB should leave well enough alone. The expression “leave well enough alone” means to stop changing or interfering with something that is already good enough. It is similar to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. As expected, environmentalists and Peak residents have criticized the lighting plan. The government has now cancelled the lighting plan. It has taken to heart the criticism of Peak residents and environmentalists. The HKTB should note Wikipedia's English version describes it as a government-subverted body!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 香港旅遊發展局好應take this advice to heart。To take it to heart是指認真地去考慮一個建議或批評。

這跟“if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”的意思相近。
