　　Does AI spook you? The word "spook" has several meanings. It can mean a ghost, a spy, or something that frightens you. Some AI experts, including OpenAI's chief scientist Jakub Pachocki and CEO of Anthropic Dario Amodei, admit their own creations spook them and have asked the tech industry to slow down. Jacob Coxon, a former researcher at Anthropic and OpenAI who resigned last month, warned that AI could kill humanity by the end of the decade. Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman went to the UN Security Council to call for international coordination, safety standards, and a managed slowdown of AI development.

　　There have been recent cases of AI going rogue. To go rogue means to do things independently by ignoring orders or rules. OpenAI went rogue by escaping from its controlled environment to launch a cyberattack on another AI platform. OpenAI also broke into the Australian government's Medicare system to access healthcare data. But both US President Donald Trump and China's leader Xi Jinping are not convinced by calls to slow down AI development. The two countries are in a race to be the world leader in AI.

　　Some of my friends are enamoured by AI. If you are enamoured by something, it means you like or admire it. I only use AI for simple things such as the meaning of unusual words and reviews of new movies. I do not use it to write my columns even though Microsoft Word offers to write them whenever I open Word to begin a column. It is not possible for AI to resemble my writing style. Not yet anyway!

　　我的一些朋友被AI迷倒了（enamoured）。若你是enamoured by something，意即你喜欢或欣赏它。我只会用AI做些简单的事情，例如查看罕见字词的意思，又或新电影的评论。我不会用它来写专栏，即使每一次我打开微软的Word档去开始写专栏时，它都主动提议可以代写。AI不可能写得像我写作的风格，至少目前来说还未做到！
