The vice-chairman and chief executive of Hang Seng Bank, Rose Lee Wai-mun, was born and raised in Hong Kong. She has worked in the banking industry for several decades.
Being fond of Chinese culture, she started focusing on developing business in mainland China and Hong Kong in the 1980s. Serving as the leader of the bank, Lee said she did not expect to receive the award and modestly described herself as "a shopkeeper and a working-class person."
As a helmsman of the bank leading more than 10,000 staff, Lee thinks the outstanding leader should be visionary, responsible and be able to cohere with the team to build trust among teammates.
As a female leader, she thinks the greatest pressure is to balance family and work. Lee thanked her husband for his support over years, and said a tough personality and the ability to withstand pressure on women are the keys to being a leader.

Community/ Public affairs/ Environment and Conservation category – Jasper Tsang Yok-sing

The convener of Hong Kong Vision Project, Jasper Tsang Yok-sing initially worked in education and he later founded the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong.
Then he was the president of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for eight years. While Tsang was handling affairs in Legco, he did not treat people who are close and distant differently. Instead, the more he is not on the same line with someone, the more he communicates and cooperates with him.
Nowadays, the polarized opinions in society lead to great tensions in the community. Tsang said outstanding political leaders should be visionary and able to balance opinions from different stakeholders to reach consensus in conflicting relationships.
He encourages young people to equip themselves with a good foundation of knowledge and build a clear and determined political stance in order to convince others.

Education/ professions/ technology and innovation category – Professor Zhang Mingjie

The Kerry Holdings Professor of Science Division of Life Science, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, has long been focusing on investigating the brain’s nervous system and the growth of the brain.
His research findings have brought good news for those who suffered from congenital deafness and autism.
He has also dedicated himself in the education field for years, nurturing excellent scientists in the next generation.
His students now exert themselves in scientific research all over the world. Zhang said he did not expect the prize and he felt encouraged by it being awarded to him.
He thinks Hong Kong is a good place for nurturing talent for scientific research. He also encourages young people who would like to work in the scientific field to stay curious and not to fear failure.

Sports/ culture/ performing arts category – Hong Kong Rope Skipping Associations

Nurtured by the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association, China, the Hong Kong Rope Skipping delegation has joined competitions since 2004.
In more than 10 years, it has made extraordinary achievements and has been awarded with many prizes, especially that of the Sweden Open Tournament of World Rope Skipping Championships 2016. In the competition, the delegation won 79 medals, including 27 gold medals. It also broke several world records at the same time.
The founder of the association, Professor Amy Ha Sau-ching, felt encouraged by the awards. She said rope skipping can train creativity and generosity, and it is suitable to start training athletes when they are young.
This is a sport that can both nurture elites and be promoted widely to the public at the same time.
In future, the association will continue to lead young people to "jump to the world rope skipping stage."
The association also hopes the government will provide more support and assistance to rope skipping.
